So - I'll keep this short n sweet.
Yes there is a Solstice Marathon this year
Number 7
It will be on Monday December 21, 2015.
Scroll through old posts to see the time etc. I am relocated and working like crazy now so it will be a while before I update this again I suspect.
Go like us on facebook - It's so much easier.
Please.
Google won't let me link right to this coz I signed up a million (7) years ago under a different email address and google doesn't like that - SO....
If you are smart & can fix this - tell me on facebook & I'll try.
So yes - marathon - COME ON CEEVACS!!!!
Trying to figure out fee - probably same but it's that insurance thing
the same being $25 (I think) All my records are in my island home so...

Race results and stories
One of the things I love about running, the running community and this event, is hearing the stories of people. We had family and travellers, long lost friends and exciting new entrants. Thank you all.
One day I actually will have a computer or timing system or maybe just a working stopwatch but until that time- here are the results to the best of our old school abilities.
Full - some were early starts
Jeremy Clegg (the local runner in orange) 2:47:24
Belinda Kissack - CeeVac! 4:46
Liz Ross-1st marathon-4:54:20
Charlotte Wilson- 1st marathon, 20th birthday!!! 4:57
Alexandria Wilson-1st marathon-4:57. They're cousins. I know.
Dylan Olsen- Nelson crazy runner- 5:00:19
John Bulmer- and his scene stealing pooch-5:08
Jim Wilson- from Quebec!-5:15:50
Sheila Dawe-local maniac and moon jogger ultra running wonder- 6:20:18.
Mylisa Evans had planned the full but ran the 1/2 instead at 2:30. Then she stripped to her swim suit and went for a dip. Yup.
1/2- we had a few people wisely decide to cut their run short and I always appreciate it when people listen to their bodies. It's really not fun running with a flu or bum knee.
Catrin Jones- the Victoria runner in orange. Obviously orange is the new fast. -1:33:20. But she kept going
Megan Lewis-Schneider and
Teresa Lewis-Schneider finished next but asked me not to post time. There must be a story there!
Ben Mars 1:55 CeeVac
Pete Langelo 1:57 more CeeVacs!
Michelle Peters 2:14
Lisa de Lusignan 2:14- I'll tell her story in a minute
Carolyn Sharp- 2:22. Who then passed a lovely morning with us at the pancake tent. She and Dylan are off on grand adventures. Bon Voyage!
Vicky Major- Rage! A Victoria derby girl! 1st 1/2! 2:26
Brenda Niziol 2:27
Jessica Kirby 2:27. Best finisher. Accompanied by kids. No dry eyed officials around.
James Griffin 2:27. James is one of the CeeVacs who started bringing all the other CeeVacs and now well the event is just lousy with CeeVacs!!!and thank goodness. What a great running club.
Darcie Nolan- 4:13 local triathlete completing her 2nd event here
10km
Anne Heyes- :58. Secretly early started and then left. Long time supporter and Running Room manager
Kaleena Young- 1:02- runner and roller derby player!
Dale Spencer- 1:05:15
Catherine Macey -1:06
Andrea Thomson -1:06:07
Claire Spencer -1:06:25
Tara Janes -1:06:40
Danielle Welch- 1:11:30
Megan Larson- 1:11:30
Nicole Strong- 1:16
Maria Gomez-1:23:35
Bev Gruhn- who ran some distance for 1:40 !
I will take our donations to Loaves and Fishes after Christmas and it will be official but it looks like we raised close to $600 plus food. And we are able to cover Crystals expenses!! Yeah us!!!
This year I will, with Lisa de Lusignan's permission be making the donation in the memory of her nephew Mat Hancock. Mat died on Dec 21,2007 at 18. I'm honoured that this event can help Lisa remember her nephew.

FAQs 4u
This is an old post I posted in the past. It still holds true. Please remember this is a small event. Think about carrying a cell phone as there will be no aid stations on the dark side of the lake. One aid /water station, which you will pass every 10 km and you must say hey to us.
The full course 2 complete laps around Westwood lake then 3 out and backs to a marked 5km tree. The 1/2 is the 2 complete laps and 1 out and back. This year's surprise growth race, the 10 km is one out and back to the tree. Because of the number of 10kmers I am contemplating changing the direction the rest of you runners start and approach the hill. I'll let you know. Maybe. Ok
All along the course there are kilometer markers. They are permanent and will only mock you as you progress because they mark the distance of 1 lap & well, ha! That's not you. However they will become a friendly place marker along the way & give you ample time to work on your marathon math skills.
Westwood Lake is a public park and you will be running on a public, open trail. This trail will be shared with walkers & other runners, dogs, & kids on bikes. Please be courteous. Leave no garbage behind, make yourself known as you pass, don't startle that older woman out for her morning walk please & respect the beauty of our little lake. Thank you.
If you are planning on doing an early start, please let me know. There is a 7:30 am option, & you are welcome to take it, BUT let me know coz if I don't have to be there at 7:30 am - then cool. Also - a headlamp is advised for the first lap if you take the 7:30 start time. Regular.start time 9 am. Any other questions or concerns?? Email me -beasknee@gmail.com.
See you soon!!!

Solstice 6!
Greetings all you happy runners!
It's fall - I missed a lot of the year but am ready to get started on the
6th annual Winter Solstice Marathon!!!!!!!
Look at all those exclamation points - it must be a big n! Why yes, yes it is - it's on a Sunday Sunday SUNDAY this year, making it almost like a real event.
So - there was talk of a multiple BUT we simply do not have the volunteer pace to do that - so it's just the one day event Sunday December 21
10 km
1/2 marathon
Full marathon
6 km walk or run around the lake
More details to follow soon
Like the exorbitant entry fee (probably $20)
News on bling
And when registration opens - Soon
But first finish your fall marathons - plan to run this one & plan on having fun in the wet (often) beautiful, sometimes cold and slushy, always heart warming, free chili marathon to celebrate winter.
Oh and
Always looking to expand that volunteer base
And - we offer absolutely NO PRIZE MONEY!!! So everyone is welcome but I can not pay you!

I apologize for this taking so long to post - bad internet, bad flu thing, all the usual excuses.
I thank you all so much for coming out again & making this such a wonderful event - we raised $500.25 for Loaves & Fishes here in Nanaimo plus a trunk load of foods.
That's pretty cool, I think.
Until next year! Keep on running!
