Winter Solstice Marathon!

The 1st Annual Winter Solstice Westwood Lake Marathon

Monday December 21, 2009
8 am registration - meet @ 1st parking lot
9am start

walkers & runners welcome
no time limit (but may run out of volunteers)

Featuring:

An Aid Station! (Which will be playing the part of aid station #1 @ the 6km mark, aid station #2 @ the 16 km mark, #3 @ the 26 km mark, #4 @ the 36 km mark & finally as the finishing line festivities super station!!

This is a fun run to fulfill a need for Vancouver Island Maniac races. Be prepared to look after yourself - I will try to get timing - but might not.

Come see if I make medals!

The route will be a combination of loops(TBA) around beautiful Westwood Lake in Nanaimo, BC, Canada. It is a mostly flat 6km loop (with one pretty nasty hill) & the route will most likely consist of 2 times around completely & 3 times to the 5 km marker & back. There is a washroom! The trail is open to walkers, bikers & runners - so be prepared.
It is mostly wooded & groomed. Weather Permitting - this is the best place we think we can have a safe run in the area @ this time of year.

So - now included @ the 9am start time

1 -6 km loop!
2 - 16km distance!
3 - 22 km distance! (as close to a 1/2 as we can get without you stopping somewhere on the other side of the lake!)
4 - 26km distance!
5 - 36 km distance!
& of course the ORIGINAL 42.2 km distance!

So bring a couple of cans - something for the aid station if you want & come on down for a fun winter run

Update - Dec 19

Just ran the loop - all is well - the event is a go!

Supposed to be a good weather break - so looking forward to seeing those of you who are coming on out to run this ultra casual marathon! See you Monday!
